The Hidden Signs of Depression in Men

Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. For a lot of the men I work with, it looks like constant irritability, a short fuse, or just feeling... empty. They say things like, “I don’t feel anything anymore,” or “I’m so tired, but I can’t stop.” That was true for me once, too.

Many men to through periods where everything can fell dull—like life had been turned down to grey. Still functioning, still showing up. But inside it feels like was dragging themselves through mud. Often without realising it was depression until it is named.

That’s why I pay attention to what’s under the surface. You might not feel “depressed” in the textbook sense, but if you're running on fumes, struggling to care, or snapping at the people you love, something deeper might be going on.

Therapy gives you space to unpack that. You don’t have to wait until you fall apart. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth paying attention to.
